Summary:
Ever since Garnet was young, it has been her and her teacher, Aerith; the last of the Cetra. In a way, Aerith was her mother and Garnet knew she was privileged to be taught under the last remaining Healer of the Earth. As a result, Garnet fiercely wanted to be the best White Mage there was. No matter what anyone else said, she believed it was possible to heal everything.
Determined to prove herself right, Garnet left home as soon as she could; searching to join a missionary party as their White Mage. In the city of Rabanaster, she managed to find a bulletin post from Mr. Zack Fair; a ShinRa SOLDIER. Garnet couldn't believe her luck! Of all the people most likely in need of a White Mage, a SOLDIER would be one of them.
He was a kind, fair man and Garnet proved herself many times as a worthy Healer no matter how much danger she herself might fall prey to. But they worked together to help each other and Garnet felt more and more sure that she could keep her word to never fail.
After a few months...a Summon escaped its seal. The great Summon Ifrit, a demon of fire. Zack had only gone to fetch fresh supplies for their journey. If only Garnet had gone with him.
Two days later, Garnet went home alone; the train ride feeling bleak and unending. The town was celebrating Beltane, of all things, too, and Garnet wanted to drown as she made her way through the festive town. When...there, through a section of crowd, Garnet saw Aerith wandering about her daily business. Selling flowers and offering her prayers to the sick.
In a flurry of emotion, Garnet pushed her way through the crowds, calling her name and feeling the misery of the past few days flood through her. She hated that Aerith had been right...and that she had had to learn the hard way.
